Bengals coach Marvin Lewis apologized Thursday for comments he made a day earlier on ESPN Radio's Dan Patrick Show when asked if his players are victims of profiling.

"I made some comments that did not illustrate the high regard I have for the Cincinnati Police Department," Lewis said in a statement. "I apologize that what I said did not reflect my true feelings."

Lewis said he has a "good friendship" with police chief Tom Streicher and "great respect" for the department.

"I have spoken with Tom to express my regret," Lewis said. "I do not believe the Cincinnati Police Department is specifically profiling our players.

"I also want to note that ... at no point did I say or mean to imply that these issues had anything to do with race. When I spoke of our players being perhaps more subject to scrutiny than others, I was referring to their standing as public figures."

Marvin is frustrated. His players are frustrated. The media is exacerbating the situation. But remember - winning cures all.

Another Bob this time: I can understand the frustration Marvin Lewis must feel, with all the legal issues surrounding his team the past couple of years . . and then a player gets stopped for not using a turn signal?! I drive around Dayton and often don’t see turn signals used. Do the cops in Cinti have so little to do that they have to apprehend young black male turn signal offenders? Seems suspect to me (and I’m white). Wouldn’t be the first time the Queen City police have profiled someone

There are obviously a group of “THUG” type players that have been a problem for this team. I also believe that since Marvin is looking for possible excuses…….He may want to consider his own lack of disipline on this team!

IT IS MARVIN’S FIRST BIG FOOT-FOUL…AS IN HIS FOOT IS IN his MOUTH! HE BROUGHT THESE BORDERLINE PLAYERS HERE; IF HE CAN’T OPEN THEIR EYES TO see WHAT A CHANCE HE HAS GIVEN THEM AND IF THEY CONTINUE TO STUMBLE WITH THE LAW AND OUR COMMUNITY; THEN THEY MUST BE SWIFTLY CUT AND HE MUST RECTIFY HIS CHOICES TO REFLECT OUR FUTURE PICKS AND PICK-UPS OF THOSE CUT BY OTHER TEAMS TO REFLECT CHARACTER MORE IN THE MOLD OF THE WILLIE ANDERSONS, CARSON PALMERS AND CHAD JOHNSONS OF THE FOOTBALL WORLD.
